Lucia
My first contact with clay started at local pottery classes, where I fell in love with this material and its versatility and sensuality. I am continually learning, developing new shapes and forms and hoping to bring my personality into my work. Clay is the perfect material for me to express myself - it’s tactile, earthy, alive; it has its own life energy and memory. The whole ceramic process is very playful, therapeutic and meditative, teaching patience and self-reflection.
I specialise in hand-built ceramics, exploring organic curves, simple forms and clean lines.
I’m also influenced by the beauty of the human body, particularly by feminine sensuality, strength and attitude. Some of my sculptural pieces symbolically or realistically reflect the curves of the feminine body.
Aswell as sculptural and decorative artworks I also make functional objects such as bowls, plates, mugs.
My aim is to create functional and decorative artistic objects that are minimalist, modern and elegant.
I am from Slovakia, based in the UK, Scotland, Edinburgh.
Thank you.
My Work
The creation of my ceramic pieces is a slow and meticulous process that can extend to a few weeks. I use various hand-building techniques, mainly coil and slab building. Each piece undergoes gradual drying process, at first bisque firing (1000’C), glazing and then second glaze firing (1240’C). I use stoneware clay, mostly mixing my own glazes.
All my work is entirely handmade and unique, no two pieces are the same.
Each piece can be reproduced within 3-4 weeks with certain variation in size, shape and colour.
Thank you for your interest.
